Former FIFA and CAF instructor, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, has blasted the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for its plan to drag the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) over what the NFF considers to be the new rules in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers.
The former Super Eagles Manager was emphatic that the NFF leadership has learnt nothing, and also forgotten nothing. He told them to shut up and face the failure they forced down on the throat of unsuspecting Nigerians through their planlessness.
Daily Sports recalls that the NFF through its spokesman, Ademola Olajire, recently revealed that the federation would be contesting “the sudden change of rules” by CAF after Chad pulled out of the qualifiers. The revelation came on the heels of the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for next year’s AFCON football summit to be held in Gabon.
Onigbinde rubbished those claims, insisting that NFF officials know about the rules.
“I know the rules have been on for some time, so if we want CAF to change it because of us, let us try and see what the outcome will be. But I know there was a circular to that effect,” he said.
Onigbinde added that this has again exposed the present NFF leadership as amateur administrators not ready to learn, read and understand the rules governing the game they are administering despite the federation being a foremost a member of CAF.
He exploded: “Let me say that this board has embarrassed the nation enough. If it claims it doesn’t know the rules of CAF, there is no need to look any further than for them to leave the stage to allow meaningful progress to take hold in our fast decaying football. Enough should be enough. For the records, this is not the first time; it has happened on occasions. The Amaju Pinnick-led board planned to fail and it did; it will be very unfair to now look for scapegoats and escape routes. The board should stop this nonsense joke carried too far.”
“It is ridiculous because I believe seriously in the ability of Nigeria to perform much better than we are performing if we do it right. This regime is not doing enough for the growth of the game. We have missed out in two Nations Cups yet somebody has the mind to say CAF is wrong,” he added.
