Chelsea have reportedly held preliminary talks with Rennes over the signing of Edouard Mendy.
According to Football Insider, the Blues are keen on signing the Senegal international who joined Rennes from French Ligue 1 rivals Stade Remis last year.
Frank Lampard is ready to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga following a poor season for the Spanish shot-stopper and Mendy has emerged as an unlikely candidate to step in as Chelsea’s number one.
Rennes are said to be demanding up to £45 million for the 28-year-old who kept 13 clean sheets in 33 appearances across all competitions last season.
Mendy was born in France but plays internationally for the Lions of Teranga. In total he has made seven appearances for Senegal and was the country’s first choice at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations before picking up a hand injury in the group stages of the competition.
