Players Union condemns attack on 3SC General Manager by Sunshine Stars fans

The Nigeria players Union, the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) has condemned the attack on Mr. Rasheed Balogun, the General Manager of 3SC Football Club of Ibadan, on Sunday during the NPFL week nine match between Sunshine Stars Football Club and visiting 3SC Football Club in Akure.

“The attack by some supporters of the home team on the General Manager is unwarranted and barbaric and can’t be allowed to thrive in our football and especially now that our league venues are becoming people-friendly courtesy of the work and efforts by the League Management Company and other stakeholders, including the referees and the players. We can’t allow a few individuals to drag our football back,” NANPF said today in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Comrade Austin Popo.

The union said it would continue to support and encourage developments that will provide the enabling work environment for its members to perform, warning that “any threat to that such as the incident in Akure can’t be accepted.”

“We therefore call on the League Management Company to investigate the incident and place the required sanctions on the culprits,” NANPF said.
