Wikki Tourists captain of the day, Festus Umanna, and his teammates are satisfied with a hard-earned scoreless draw away to Abia Warriors, mid-week in the Nigerian top flight.
Speaking with Daily Sports after the Wednesday evening fixture in Umuahia, Umanna said: “It was a very tough game. We had a plan to at least secure a draw here and we executed it very well.”
Wikki Tourists played a compact game, frustrating their hosts, who struggled to create clear-cut chances.
“Our game plan was to keep the ball most times and to defend in groups when we lost possession,” Umanna disclosed.
In another game that was live on Supersport, MFM drew 1-1 at their Lagos home with Kano Pillars. Pillars profited from a controversial penalty kick to equalise in the second half as replays showed that the Pillars player was brought down outside the box in the move that resulted in the penalty decision.
It was a reversal of sorts in the Nigerian league, where teams complain of having been robbed in away games.
