I don’t know where l have gone wrong saying things as it is, while analyzing events in this weekly column, that would again warrant sponsored venoms from those l have oftentimes described as idlers. Let me state here that I don’t have apologies for what is written on this page. It is also good to restate once again that I take full responsibility as long as they are based on facts which in journalism are sacred.
I will keep repeating that I am not on the pay roll of anybody, group or institution, except Daily Sports management and I owe it to the management to justify my pay and foremost to dear readers who have been there week in week out for this column and everyday for the entire all sports digital portal. It is the policy here that you put forward whatever you want relayed to the writer as feedback only by SMS but these naughty errand boys have been disobedient to that standing rule but would prefer calling and insulting their father and grandfather because of what the stomach will eat and therefore never cared a hoot about bringing curses unto themselves.
I couldn’t care less about it and my avowed view or stand on Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles technical hand remains irrevocable and let me restate that the points this columnist raised on Amaju Pinnick-led NFF executive board were absolutely substantiated.
I don’t and will never lose sleep over allegations these errand idlers leveled against me of being a hired writer. Who will dare? This is where the traditional journalism tenets of publish and be dammed holds water. You don’t see comments which are not free here. Rohr, as I did say last week has his hands full in this his second term on the Nigeria’s senior national team bench.
My stand on Joseph Yobo as his selected assistant coach remains unequivocal. He must brace up and truly put his eyes on ground and make meaning and enduring impact on the team. As I pointed out last week, he is not the most qualified even as he is not yet a certificated football coach.
I must admit that he was a humble person when he was a player as my meeting with him a number of times strictly for interviews, during my days with the old good Daily Times and lately Newswatch are handy. Other objective colleagues would also attest to the above about Joseph Yobo. One can only pray that he reenacts same now that he is on the saddle as one of the assistant coach to Rohr.
Today, the news of the eventual signing of the dot lines in Man U by Odion Ighalo gladdens the hearts of his high rising fans worldwide and as if that was not enough, the news that he may reconsider his retirement in the Super Eagles has further strengthened the handlers and brought high spirits to the team even before the side reassembles.
If he reconsiders his retirement and back to the team, it will no doubt rekindle completeness of the squad and also give more sharp teeth to the attacking potency or formation of the former Africa Champs. It also brings to bear more respect and will even instill some far reaching measure of fears in our opponents.
Truth would be that the combination of Ighalo Victor Osimhen another sensational young player in the Eagles line up would be headache of any team’s defence line no matter what.
One prays he comes back to play for more few years for the national team before bowing out when ovation is loudest. We have been abreast also with the exploits of the very articulated and clam deadly hit-man, Victor Osimhen in his club side and awards. It is cheering news for the national team and so we are likely inching to having again the days when Eagles were playing and you have the hope of getting good result.
This digital newspaper salutes these lads and their colleagues that are waiting on the wings for the national team assignment and the spirit that would attain the gathering of the Eagles would be unprecedented. One spirit, one team would be the watch word and Rohr, Agu, Yobo and technical crew working assiduously to throw up a suicide squad to behold are equal to the task.
One will not but wish the team well. However, nobody would dare intimidate this columnist from saying it as it is. I believe that the building of the national side is everyone’s duty, therefore using touts against the other remains disservice to this beautiful game that unites Nigerians more. We should all be allowed to air or put our views in writing so far such is objective and without any prejudice tailored towards the uplifting of the sports for its growth and sundry.
Our social media handles are on, so join us to discuss further the above. Super Eagles team is ours and not the exclusive of anybody or group of people. Keep shooting hard till next week!!
