The Committee on Review of Imo State Sports Commission Law has submitted its report to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma for further action.

Receiving the report Tuesday at Sam Mbakwe Executive Council (EXCO) Chamber, Government House, Owerri, on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku, commended the Committee for a job well done.

Prof. Njoku who expressed gratitude to the Committee for not allowing the COVID-19 pandemic to be an impediment to the assignment stated that the essence of the review is to update the existing law through revision and suggestions following developments that have taken place since the establishment was enacted.

The Deputy Governor reiterated that sports, as an integral part of Government, provides the needed environment through which people recreate, compete and sustain themselves for healthy living.

Earlier, Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Pat Ekeji, who handed over the report to the Deputy Governor explained that the Committee swung into action immediately after the members were inaugurated on March 16, 2020, and was able to weather through the storm of COVID-19 and other challenges; hence, beat the deadline set for it.

Dr. Ekeji further explained that the new law consists of such Departments as Administration, Accounts, Asset Development and an amended Governing Board accommodating every zone in the membership.

He promised that the government would be greeted with a new vista in sporting activities once the recommendations as contained in the review report are implemented.
