Big Football Competition, Ewu Cup, Slated For Delta State In November; Rolly FC Provides COVID-19 Succour To Refs, Others In Benin City

The 10th edition of the Ewu kingdom Peace Cup football competition has been scheduled to hold in November as Delta State, like the rest of Nigeria and the international community continues to battle to end the scourge of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ewu Kingdom Peace Cup is a very prestigious football competition that attracts the best of young football talents who represent their various grassroots teams for the tournament.

The competition would hold across Ughelli local government area of Delta State.

The brain behind the organisation of countless numbers of tournaments is Johnbul Onome who is the president of Excellent Football Academy, one of the best football academies in Delta state. Mr Onome is head of the Local Organising Committee of the Ewu Kingdom Peace Cup and he has promised a well-run competition.

“I am excited about the Ewu peace cup tournament as it is a competition that usually brings out the best of youth football. There is always prestige at stake as clubs jostle for the top prizes that are there to be won in the tournament. The Ewu Kingdom is one with a rich tradition of greatness and it will be ready to welcome grassroots clubs from all over Nigeria with great warmth,” Onome said.

Here is an overview of the competition and the prizes it has on offer for participating clubs and players:

Registration fee: N15,000

*First placed team: N100,000, 23 Gold medals and Trophy with set of Jersey

*2nd: N60,000 23 Silver Medals and set of Jersey

*3rd: N30,000 and Set of Jersey

*4th: N10,000 and set of Jersey

*Best Goalkeeper: Keeper Gloves

*Best Coach: Track up down

*Highest goal Scorer: Pairs of Boot

*MVP: Pairs of Boots

Registration closes October 3rd after which there will be a period for late registration which will last from 5th to 10th October. Late registration will cost N20,000. Onome advises clubs to try to meet up with the registration closing date.

Draws for the tournament comes up on Wednesday, October 14, at the Ughelli Stadium.

Rolly FC Donates Food Items To Referees, Club Officials, Police And Others

Rolly Football Club of Benin City have made a sizable donation to help members of Edo State Football Referee Council, Members of EDPA Estate Ugbowo Police Station, S&T Barracks, Isihor, Coaches and Management Staff of the Rolly FC during the COVID-19 lockdown.

With many people facing uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, the club chairman, Mr Roland Inonojie, in his own little way decided to assist in cushioning the effect of the Corona Virus Pandemic.

In a statement by the Club Media Officer and Marketing Director, Mr Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, the club has always been committed to supporting the communities, the players, coaches and management staff of the football club that will make their debut in the Nationwide Division One League as soon as football hostilities resume.

Responding on behalf of Edo State Referees Association, the Chairman, Mr Johnbull Okundolor, while receiving the food items thanked the Chairman of Rolly FC for identifying with the Edo State men of the whistle at this time of COVID-19, especially when all the referees are locked down in their various homes without any football engagement.

He further declared that the food items are the first palliative materials the Edo State Football Referees council is receiving since the lockdown was implemented by the Edo State Government.

On his part, the DPO EDPA Estate Police station, CSP Salidu Tafida, thanked the Chairman and Management of Rolly FC for the humanitarian service and support to the Estate Police Command at this time when the economy is uncertain and for making these possible because so many families are in need this period.

In his remarks the S&T Barracks Command Officer, Major Okeke Mathias, applauded the Chairman and Management of the club for the donation of the food items and promised to continue his support to the club when they begin their league matches at the S&T Barracks football field.

He also stated that everyone should abide by the government guidelines of keeping social distances, using face masks whenever they go out, washing of hands regularly and using hand sanitizers.

The Club Secretary, Mr Kenneth Ugbodaga, on behalf of the management team thanked the Chairman for the show of love and support given to everyone in the club who received their food items at the Club Secretariat after the tour. He prayed that God Almighty will keep and protect him and his lovely family.
