Brazilian club Internacional have reportedly joined rivals Botafogo in pursuit of Nigeria international John Obi Mikel.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Porto Alegre club are interested in the 32-year-old’s services.
Mikel reportedly cut ties with Trabzonspor last month after the Turkish Super Lig continued as normal despite the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has claimed over 165 000 lives worldwide (as of 20 April 2020).
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner caught the eye of Chelsea while playing for Norwegian club side Lyn and eventually joined the Blues in 2006.
He spent over a decade at Stamford Bridge where he’d win nine trophies including the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League crown.
Mikel also enjoyed stints at Tianjin Teda in China and in the English Championship with Middlesbrough before moving to Turkey.
Botafogo currently boast former Japan international Keisuke Honda on their books while Ivory Coast legend Yaya Toure was a reported transfer target for the Brazilian club earlier this year. (African Football)
