Victor Osimhen’s former teammate at RSC Charleroi believes that the Nigeria international has all the qualities to become the next Didier Drogba.
Marseille-born Nicolas Penneteau, who is still contracted to the Belgium club where Osimhen scored 20 goals in 36 appearances last season, is confident that the striker can go onto achieving great things.
The 21-year-old has taken the French Ligue 1 by storm following his move to Lille in August. He has scored 18 goals and assisted a further six in 38 appearances across all competitions this season.
His run of form has not gone unnoticed with several clubs in England and Spain said to be interested in signing the forward.
Drogba, who signed his first professional contract at the age of 21, was a late bloomer and only earned move to Chelsea where he entrenched himself as a hero in 2004, following a rapid rise to the top. Penneteau, who would’ve witnessed Drogba’s progress in France, is confident that Osimhen can be next Drogba in the French Ligue 1.
“He doesn’t surprise me,” Penneteau told BFM with RMC Sport.
“When we discovered him, when he first arrived, two clubs refused to sign him because of small physical problems.
“From the first training sessions we saw that he was a player of different class. I said it when he moved to Lille but for me, he might be the next Drogba in the French league,” he concluded. (RMC Sport)
