Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) newcomers Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club (MFM FC) continued their fairytale run Wednesday evening, winning their third match in four games. They beat Sunshine Stars of Akure 2-1 at the Agege Stadium in Lagos. Goals from Musa Newman and Stephen Odey did the job.
MFM FC began the game on the high side, coming close in three minutes. In six minutes, they scrambled their way through but, again, nothing came out of it. Ojo Mine of Sunshine Stars had to make a fine save at eight minutes to keep the scoreline barren.
Sunshine Stars later took over the game at 11 minutes, breaking through the MFM defence, but failed to utilise their chances. When MFM broke out of the midfield and changed the pace of the game in 25 minutes, a shot from Musa Newman became the first goal of the match and his first goal this season.
Sunshine Stars equalised in 40 minutes. Kadiri Samad got a cross at the left side of the field from Stanley Dimgba after a beautiful work, excused himself from MFM defence and scored fired home.
The second half began with appeals for penalty by the MFM players, to which the officiating referee Francis Agbaegbu turned a deaf ear.
At 75 minutes Ojo Mine came to Sunshine Stars’ rescue again, saving a well-taken free-kick. Further attempts from both sides did not yield results, but MFM later made it two on 86 minutes after a tapping pass which Stephen Odey converted.
