General Manager of Rivers United FC, Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu (Eze-Udo), has charged members of the Rivers United family to redouble their efforts this year, 2020, as the club looks to achieve set objectives.
Chief Kpalukwu in his New Year Message to members praised all stakeholders of the club for the respective parts they played in 2019. He however added that more still needs to be done in 2020.
His words: “First, I want to wish everyone associated with Rivers United FC a very happy New Year as we step into 2020.
“I also want to specially thank the sponsors of the club, the Rivers State Government, under the able guidance of the Governor, His Excellency, Chief, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, POS for the continued massive support to the team.
“The Rivers State Ministry of Sports have been exemplary with technical and logistical support.
“On behalf of the management of Rivers United FC, I also want to commend the Technical crew, players, members of our supporters club (the best in the country) and indeed, all well wishers of Rivers United FC.
“I however wish to stress that the 2019/2020 season is a marathon and not a sprint so this is not the time to start celebrating or resting on our laurels.
“To this end, I want to urge everyone involved with Rivers United to redouble our efforts in 2020.
“This is time for resourcefulness, hard work, selflessness, putting the interests of Rivers United first and uniting for a common goal and purpose.
“We will not be deterred as our main objective remains putting smiles on the faces of all Rivers men and women at the end of the ongoing football season,” Chief Kpalukwu concluded.
Rivers United currently occupies the third place on the NPFL standings with 18 points from 11 matches.
The ‘Pride of Rivers’ could go top of the division with a win over MFM FC in their next league game on Sunday, January 5, 2020.
Sunday’s game takes place at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt from 4pm.
