The Management of Kwara United Football Club yesterday, Tuesday, December 24, 2019, paid a visit to the family of the pioneer Chairman of the club, Chief Adolphus Dubem Okafor, the Asiwaju Nd’Igbo 1, at their country home in Sabo-Oke area of Ilorin, the state capital.
Receiving the team, the widow, Mrs. Felicity Okafor, and one of the sons, Martins Okafor, expressed happiness with the visit, adding that the family had been forgotten since the death of the Asiwaju Nd’Igbo.
According to Mrs. Okafor, “I thought my late husband had not done well enough to deserve being remembered. But with this visit, we have the belief that he is being remembered for good.
“He will be happy in his grave for this visit, which symbolises that his legacies are worthy of been remembered.”
Mrs. Okafor prayed for the team and its handlers.
Incumbent Chairman of Kwara United, Clemet Kumbi Titiloye, had earlier commended the late Okafor for his efforts on sports development in the state, especially on Kwara United Football Club.
Late Chief Okafor, who died on February 25, 2008, was instrumental to the formation of Kwara United in 1997, following the takeover of Exide Sparkers FC of Ibadan.
“We have come to give honour to whom it’s due, because we don’t want the legacies of the late Kwara Pillar of Sports to die,” Kumbi said. He called for prayers and total support for the team.
The Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa, in his opening speech said that the contributions of late Okafor can never be forgotten, being the pioneer Chairman of the club, and the first to secure an elite division slot as well as a continental ticket for the team.
Among those present at the meeting were Kwara United General Manager, Bashir Badawiy, the Secretary, Hamidu Olowo, the Chairman of Igbo Traders Football Association (ITFA), Nze Joseph Igiri, among others.
