Arsenal are on the verge of appointing Mikel Arteta as new head coach of the team and there’s one name that has been increasingly linked as well as an addition to the coaching crew of the Gunners.
Sam Fagbemi is a young Nigerian who is part of Pep Guardiorla’s Manchester City’s coaching crew and has been touted as someone who Arsenal and Arteta are desperate to see make a switch to North London.
Who is Sam Fagbemi?
Aged just 25, Fagbemi leads Manchester City’s youth scouting strategy in the south.
Interestingly, the Englishman has previously worked at Arsenal as a video scout with the club's youth academy. He moved to Manchester City in 2017, although remained in London.
Arsenal have offered Fagbemi more power than he gets at City to control the club's approach to youth recruitment, which could influence his decision to sign.
Fagbemi inadvertently sparked the recent backroom cull at Arsenal, after club chiefs were unhappy that they were missing out on snapping up London-based youth prospects.
The City scout helped the Etihad club secure signatures for the likes of Darko Gyabi and Sam Edozie from Millwall and Josh Wilson-Eshbrand from West Ham, from under Arsenal’s nose.
Steve Morrow was one of the casualties from the extensive shake-up.

All Set For 2nd IB Sports Champions Cup In Benin City
The second edition of the IB SPORTS Champions Cup presented by football company Onyx is set to hold in Benin City.
This time it’s an abridged version, a one day event that takes place on Friday, December 20, and which will see grassroots teams play a round robin and decide the winner of the 2019 edition.
The event is meant to scout for players who would be given sports scholarship both in Nigeria with one of the biggest Youth football Club in Nigeria, IB Sports Dreams FC Abuja as well as sports scholarship to Europe and Asia.
The Highest goal scorer of the last year’s event, Sunday Oriola, is currently in Japan on an all-expense-paid three-year football scholarship, with a big chance of going professional at the end of the programme.
Last year’s winners Ine Stars FC of Benin City defeated Eagle Wings of Benin City on penalty shoot-out after the two teams were tied after normal time.
The chief sponsor of this tournament Mr. Idahosa Benjamin, CEO of IB Sports Dreams restates his commitment to give back to his people and his immediate society, helping to change lives, take the kids out of the street and reduces social vices in the society.
In his words, “Football is a universal language. It is what unites everyone, old and young, male and female, the poor and the rich. Through this tournament we will keep putting smiles on the face of many and giving hope to the hopeless kids on the street that they can become great by putting to use their amazing God-giving talent.”
The tournament will be played in the morning at the Awogba Mini Stadium Complex in Benin City.
