Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin on Saturday evening defeated visiting Rovers of Calabar by a lone goal in a 2019/2020 Nigeria National League (NNL) week three match played at the University of Benin Sports Complex.
Daniel Johnson's spot kick on the dot of the first 45 minutes was the determining factor that separated the Benin arsenal from the Calabar boys.
The Benin arsenal have won two games out of the three so far played in the current season; beating J. Atete 2-0 in their first match and succumbed to a lone goal defeat away to Bayelsa United in their second outing.
In a post-match interview, Insurance FC Assistant Coach, Greg Ikhenoba admitted that his players played below their strength despite winning the match.
"We thank God for the victory. Our boys played with a bit loss of form. We will go back to the drawing board and work harder to improve in our next game," Coach Greg said.
On the other hand, the head Coach of Rovers FC Bob Osim however accepted losing to a better side, but blamed his side loss on officiating.
Insurance would be travelling to Lagos to face Joy Comets FC in their week four game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, next weekend.
