CHAN Fallout: Gabonese players banned for life, coach axed

By Daily Sports on February 10, 2016

The Gabonese Football Federation has fired Panthers coach Stéphane Bounguendza and his entire technical staff, following the country’s poor show at the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Gabon finished bottom of their Group A after recording a draw against Morocco and back-to-back defeats to Rwanda and Côte d’Ivoire.

FEGAFOOT mentioned “insufficient results and unreached objectives” to justify their decision to wield the axe on the staff.

Meanwhile, defenders Edmond Mouele and Stevy Nzambe and striker Abdou Djamilou Atchabao have been banned for life from international duty “for unworthy and dishonorable behaviour, in addition to disrespectfulness.”

Three other players have been handed a shorter suspension “for unbecoming and disgraceful conduct”, including strikers Dorian Allen Nono and Mario Mandrault and midfielder Vladimir Wils Aworet Ogoula. (mtnfootball.com)
