Federation Cup champions Akwa United on Friday night won the League Management Company-organised Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super 4 tournament after they played a goalless draw against Enyimba at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Akwa claimed the pre-season tournament – their second title in four months – before an impressive turnout as they finished top of the log with nine points from six matches while Enyimba FC finished second on eight points.
Akwa United enjoyed the larger share of ball possession in the first half, but Enyimba chased the game after the interval because only a victory would have won them the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Kelvin Itoya’s goal from the penalty spot was what gave Wolves a final day victory over Nasarawa United.
Nasarawa however finished third after amassing eight points while Warri Wolves finished rock bottom on the table with seven points.
All four clubs will begin their continental campaigns next weekend.
Enyimba and Warri Wolves will feature in the CAF Champions League, while Akwa United and Nasarawa will play in the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup. (thenff.com)
