Stoke City manager, Mark Hughes has taken the credit for Victor Moses’ meteoric rise and new-found defensive solidity at English Premier League leaders, Chelsea.
Moses has been one of the mainstays in Antonio Conte’s Blue juggernaut that have produced 13 league wins on the spin this season.
Hughes says he is "not surprised at all" at the progress made by the Nigerian international and identifies his time on loan at the Potters (2014/15 season) as a crucial moment in his professional football development.
“I’m not surprised at all by how he’s been doing, although when he got here (Stoke) he couldn’t defend.
“We taught him how to defend and they’re reaping the benefits,” Hughes said.
Meanwhile, Moses’ importance to Chelsea has been underlined by the club’s former assistant manager, Ray Wilkins.
Wilkins is one of many wowed by Moses’ impressive displays this season and he was quick to brand the 26-year-old "irreplaceable."
“Easy to play down the importance of Victor Moses but when you look around the squad, he is one player who appears not to have a replacement in the team at the moment.
“Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante are players you think they can’t replace but in the squad they have players who play similar role as them, so easy to replace them unlike Moses,” Wilkins posited.
Moses has three goals in 18 league appearances for Chelsea this season. (supersport.com)
