Osun United Football Club, despite going on relegation at the end of the Nigeria National League (NNL) 2018/2019 season, will compete in the 2019/2020 season which kicks off later this month.
A source at the team camp exclusively informed Daily Sports that the club management has secured the promotion slot of Collins Edwin Sports Club of Lagos after weeks of negotiation to swap their slot ahead of the new season.
“The papers towards the change of slot have been administered in Lagos on Wednesday, November 7th, and the Omoluabi Giants’ technical crew led by ex-international Bright Omokaro has started preparation towards the new season,” the source disclosed.
Collins Edwin Sports Club got promoted to the NNL from the Nationwide League One (NLO) Division One after defeating Ijebu United 5-4 on penalties in the promotion playoff game at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, a fortnight ago.
According to the letter of notification for swapping of NNL andNLO Division One slots between Collins Edwin Sports Club and Osun United Football Club sent to NNL, NLO, Lagos State Football Association and Osun Football Association by Collins Edwin President Nwokeabia Ossy Edwin, “The management of Collins Edwin Sporting Club wishes to notify your good offices that due to budgetary constraints. We have decided not to play in the 2019/2020 Nigeria National League football season.
“Further to the above, we have decided to swap our Nigeria National League slot with Osun United Football Club Nationwide League One Division One slot on a respectable mutual understanding.
“We therefore ask the Nigeria National League secretariat to give Osun United Football Club necessary assistance to register in the 2019/2020 Nigeria National League football season.”
