Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and Angola Starlets are the first countries to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.
Six-time world championships Golden Eaglets again came back from a 1-2 goal down to stun Ecuador 3-2 in their second group match on Tuesday night.
Ibrahim Said’s hat-trick was enough for Nigeria to pick the Round of 16 ticket having won their first match against Hungary 3-2. Said scored in the 5th, 85th and 89th minutes to cancel out Ecuador’s 57th minute lead having canceled out Nigeria early goal through Daniel Jinadu’s own goal in the 10th minute.
Nigeria now top the Group B table with six points from two matches while Ecuador maintain the second position with three points. Hungry and Australia who are yet to play their second match are on zero points.
Nigeria will next face Australia who lost to Ecuador in their last group match.
As for Angola, Zini’s 31st minute and David’s 90th minute strikes was enough to defeat hard-fighting Canada 2-1.
Angola will next face host Brazil who thrashed Canada 4-1 in their opening game to determine who finally top Group A after Brazil’s game today, Wednesday, October 30, against the New Zealand, who lost to Angola 2-1 in their opener.
