The Nigeria U23 national team on Tuesday morning could not beat Niger Tornadoes in a warm-up match at the FIFA Goal Project, Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja,
The match, which was the first friendly game the Egypt-bound team played before leaving for the Africa Nations Cup (AFCON) saw both sides losing many scoring chances.
The Imama Amapakabo-led side despite the arrival of three foreign-based players (Kelechi Nwakali, Tom-Dele Bashiru and Orji Okonkwo) to boost the attacking option of the team, yet they were unable to break the stubborn Tornadoes’ defence.
Expectedly, the Nigeria U23 team’s inability to score against a team in the Nigeria National League was a cause for worry to many of the football fans who trooped to the pitch to watch their darling team play.
The Olympic Eagles’ scoring ability will also be put to test when they face Alhan Cup champions, Nasarawa.
Nigeria are drawn in the same group with Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa and Zambia. The Nigeria side will leave the country for the 2019 U23 African Nations Cup on Thursday.
