Monaco keen on Ndidi

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 27, 2025

Eight-time French Ligue 1 winners, AS Monaco, have continued their pursuit of Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, despite Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s stance on his future at the King Power Stadium.

Despite being injured, the 28-year-old has been generating transfer interests.

He last played for Leicester in their 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in the first week of December. He was withdrawn in the 52nd minute after suffering a hamstring injury.

As per French outlet, L’Equipe, AS Monaco are keen on securing the services of the Nigerian international and want to complete the move as soon as possible.

According to Caught Offside, Ndidi isn’t against a move to Monaco, and a possible agreement can be reached in the coming days between the AFCON bronze-medallist and the French Ligue 1 side, leaving the ultimate decision with Leicester City.

Last week, Leicester City head coach, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, made it clear that the versatile midfielder will not exit the King Power Stadium under any circumstance this month.

“No, of course not. Wilfred is a key player and person in the squad and the club and I’m glad he is nearly there to help the team again. We know how much we’ve missed him and we know we need him. Wilf is key in the coming months, a key part of this team that can get us out of this situation,” the former Manchester United striker said.

Adolf Hütter’s side are currently 3rd on the French Ligue 1 table, thirteen points behind Paris Saint-Germain, and are hoping to sign Ndidi on loan with an option to buy.

In the EPL, Leicester are currently 19th on the English Premier League table and have won just one game from six in the league since the Nigerian last played for the club. They head to London Stadium to take on Tottenham Hotspur today.

Since joining the Foxes from Genk in the winter transfer window of 2017, Ndidi has been a first-team player at the King Power Stadium. He has played 289 games for the 2021 FA Cup winners, scoring 18 goals and providing 21 assists.

His contract with Leicester City ran out last summer, and after offering himself to several clubs, penned a new three-year deal with the EFL Championships winner, with the hopes that Van Nistelrooy’s side will stay in the English top-flight.
