Fourth Ughelli U-20 National Football Festival Will Be Special — Tournament Coordinator

By Obaseki Anthony, Ughelli on October 21, 2019

The City of Ughelli in Delta State comes alive again as this year’s edition of the prestigious youth tournament, Ughelli U-20 National Football Festival, holds from November 1 to 10, with the organisers promising that the event would be special.

“It’s gratifying to again experience the special spirit of the National Football Festival for U-20 and this time on a very special note,” says Coach Onome James, the tournament’s organising coordinator.

This is the fourth time that the football festival will be held in Ughelli, and it is based on the same idea – to create a meeting place for talented young footballers.

“It’s the teams and participants from all over the country that make Ughelli U-20 National Football Festival unique,” says Onome James.

Teams from states such as Plateau, Yobe, Adamawa, Benue, Edo, Anambra, Lagos, Kano, Ondo, Kwara, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta, among others, are expected to participate in this year’s edition.

Ughelli, a city located on an area of 818 km2 and with a population of 321,028 (as at the 2006 census) in the South South part of the country. For 10 days, football will be played at the Ughelli Township Stadium and a winner will be crowned. But the Ughelli U-20 National Football Festival is as always much more than just football.

“I’m hoping for 10 days filled with joy and football but I also encourage the participants to take the chance to meet new people and thereby maybe create friendship that will last for a life time,” says Onome James.
