Reigning African champions Blessing Onyebuchi (+70kg) and Mercy Genesis (-50kg) have departed Nigeria for Doha, Qatar, venue of the inaugural World Beach Games.
The pair, alongside coach Victor Kodei, left the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 12noon on Friday via a Qatar Airways flight.
At the tournament, the two athletes will take part in beach wrestling, which is similar to the traditional Kokuwa wrestling.
The six-day international multi-sport event – which is organised by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) – is scheduled to run from 11th to 16th October, with about 1240 athletes from over 90 countries in attendance.
The duo, who claimed African Games gold medals in Morocco a few months ago, will be guided by experienced coach Kodei at the tournament.
