The Management of Heartland FC of Owerri (formerly Iwuanyanwu Nationale) has resolved to honour the team’s fallen heroes, Uche Ikeogu and Omale, 25 years after they died in a fatal plane crash as the tem was returning from a trip.
General Manager of the team, Chief Chukwudi Ifeanyi, disclosed this during a recent chat with Ex-Iwuanyanwu Nationale players who paid him a courtesy visit.
He said that the memorial activities would commence from the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri with a candle light procession and prayers, after which a march around Owerri would commence and end at Mr Fans’ place for refreshments.
Chief Ifeanyi also confirmed that the club has decided to honour Elder Iheanacho (Medic) who survived the crash and served the club for over two decades in Heartland’s first home game in the upcoming NPFL season.
The General Manager urged the ex-players to feel free to approach his office as he is operating an open-door policy, insisting that his doors will always be open to listen to their concerns, advice and constructive criticism.
Reacting, Spokesperson for the Ex-Iwuanyanwu Nationale players, Mr. Casmir Mbachu, appreciated the management of the club under the leadership of Ifeanyi, pledging their support to the club and management through advice and mentorship.
Both parties resolved to work in sync for the benefit of the club.
The meeting was attended by Ex-Iwaunyanwu players such as Nicholas Ukadike, Casmir Mbachu, Collins Amadi, Chukwudi Nwaigbo, Obinna Obiaka, Jonathan Ubanwa, while the Heartland Management had Chief Chukwudi Ifeanyi (GM), Neville Okere (Secretary) and Ifeanyi Ekwueme (Sporting Director 1). Others were Promise Nwachukwu (Sporting Director 2), Sam Anozie (Chief Scouting Officer), and Sunny Black Ogbeka (Scouting Officer), among others.
