Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, High Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, has heaped plaudits on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for recognising the exploits of the 1994 Super Eagles squad at the Aiteo/NFF awards held recently at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
A statement by his office noted that the honour bestowed on the glorious and record-making squad tutored by acclaimed Dutchgerian Clemens Westerhof was long overdue.
His words: “The Amaju Pinnick-led board of the NFF actually hit the right buttons with the recognition and honour given to the historic Super Eagles squad.
“And can we ever forget the memorable moments we enjoyed enroute to qualifying for our first ever World Cup appearance USA ’94 and, of course, beating Zambia to lift the African Nations Cup that same year in Tunisia.”
The successful businessman and renowned sports philanthropist went on to admonish well-placed individuals, corporate bodies and the government to ensure that “the labour of our heroes past” is never in vain, by appreciating their efforts whilst they live.
Agu-Ejidike added that the feat should be extended to all national teams that have won laurels to the country.
He admonished the current Eagles to imbibe the winning spirit of the 1994 Eagles in their encounters.
