The League Management Company (LMC) has expressed optimism that the home-based Super Eagles will excel at the 2016 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) scheduled to begin on January 16 in Rwanda.
The championship, which is in its fourth edition, will hold between January 16 and February 7 in four venues in Rwanda.
Abubakar told NAN in an interview in Abuja on Friday that the team which finished third in the last edition was capable of winning the championship this time around.
“It is a source of joy for me personally and also for the LMC that the whole national team in CHAN is from the NPFL.
“I was physically present in Burkina Faso in their last game that they qualified and I am proud to say that they represented the country very well.
“I have no doubt with the crop of players and the coaches we have that they are going to do well in the tournament.”
NAN reports that a 23-man Super Eagles squad and its technical crew landed in Kigali, Rwanda, on Friday ahead of Saturday’s kick-off of the Championship.
The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C alongside Niger, Tunisia and Guinea.
The team will play its first group match at the championship against their Niger Republic counterparts on January 18.
Rwanda, Gabon, Morocco, Cote d’ Ivoire, DR Congo, Angola, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Nigeria, Niger, Guinea, Zimbabwe, Mali, Uganda and Zambia are the 16 countries that qualified for the competition. (NAN)
