Nigeria’s Super Eagles once more soared high at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, beating arch-rivals Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 on Wednesday evening to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
Mesmerising winger Samuel Chukwueze opened scoring from close range in 27 minutes and took the advantage into the break but the South Africans equalised in the 80th minute following a superb header by Bongani Zungu.
Thoughts that the match might go into extra time were rubbished with a minute left of regulation time when defender Willaim Troost-Ekong stabbed home a left flank corner kick to swing victory to the three-time champions.
Senegal had earlier on the evening defeated Benin by a lone goal to qualify for the semi-finals.
