Reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Cameroon got the defence of their title off to a winning start on Tuesday evening when they defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0.
Cameroon’s triumph at the Ismailia Stadium takes them to the top of Group F, pending the result of the day’s late game between Ghana and Benin.
The Indomitable Lions had to be patient in their clash against the Djurtus, who held the score line at 0-0 for more than an hour.
However, on 66 minutes Clarence Seedorf’s side broke through, with Banana Yaya netting with a header from a Karl Toko Ekambi corner kick.
Just three minutes later Cameroon doubled their advantage, with Stephane Bahoken latching onto a rebound in the penalty area and firing home.
The Indomitable Lions will next face Ghana in Ismailia on Saturday, while Guinea-Bissau will take on Benin at the same venue later in the evening. (African Football)
