Buhari fumbles on sports during Presidential Media Chat

By Daily Sports on December 31, 2015

President Muhammadu Buhari last night fumbled when he was asked a question on sports development during the Presidential Media Chat.

The Nigerian leader could not clearly explain his administration’s plans for sports and could not even remember the name of the team that recently qualified the country for the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil and also won the 2015 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Dakar, Senegal.

Buhari said he promptly approved the budget for the team’s participation for the Dakar tournament and expressed happiness that the team “I think the Under-17, qualified for the Olympics.” (The feat was actually achieved by the Samson Siasia-tutored Under-23 team, Dream Team VI.)

Only one question was asked on sports during the two-hour programme, with the bulk of the time devoted to security issues and the economy.
