Ex-International Femi Ajilore’s Father Goes Home

By Daily Sports on June 21, 2019

It promises to be a gathering of the creme de la creme in Nigerian soccer and some from across Europe, as Elder Taiwo Ajilore, father of former Super Eagles midfielder, Ebenezer Oluwafemi Ajilore, is laid to rest at his Lagos residence today, Friday, June 21, 2019. The event is billed to start at 10am, in Ojokoro-Ijaiye, with a reception billed to hold immediately after at nearby Abule Egba.

A special funeral service was held on Tuesday to set the burial rites in motion for the late patriarch, whose most famous son was a member of Nigeria’s silver-winning under-23 national team at the 2008 Olympic Games soccer event in Beijing, China.

The dark-skinned lad from Oshu, in Atakumosa Local Government Area of Osun State, was born on January 18, 1985 and last played for Danish 2nd division side Middelfart G&BK.

Though he also reportedly holds a Ghanaian passport, Ajilore opted to play for Nigeria, and made his debut for the Eagles against Colombia in an international friendly on November 19, 2008.

He started his professional career at FC Ebedei of Sgamu in 2002, then starred for FC Midtjylland of Denmark from 2004 to 2008, during which he scored five goals in 76 appearances, they lined out for FC Groningen of Holland from 2008 to 2013, with four goals in 78 matches.

Ajilore then played for Brøndby IF of Denmark on loan from 2011 to 2012, after which he returned to Midtjylland to wind down his career from 2013 to 2015.

The bereaved Ajilore, a cousin of veteran radio sports broadcaster Sam O’Femi Olusetire and crossover music star Saint Janet, is now based in Abuja, where he is studying for a coaching certificate.

He is a co-owner of FEMAK Football Academy in Ikeja, Lagos, with his childhood friends and fellow-ex-soccer stars, Stephen Ayodele Makinwa and Ifeanyi Emeghara, while Akinola Makinwa is one of the directors.
