Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has lauded Dream Team VI for bringing glory to the country by emerging victorious in the finals of the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Dakar, Senegal, penultimate Saturday.

He specifically commended the resilience, dedication and focus of the team which saw them beating their Algerian counterparts during the finals to lift the coveted trophy for the first time.

He equally commended Nigerians, team officials and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their support and efforts which culminated in the success recorded by Dream Team VI.

Saraki said: “You have made us proud by leading the country to attain this soccer victory for the first time in this particular category. You have equally lived up to your name as the Dream Team by emerging best in Africa. It is my hope that you will go to Brazil and conquer the world at the 2017 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“I must say that your superlative performance during the tournament is a clear demonstration of what youths are capable of contributing to national development if well motivated,” he stated.

He said that the Senate in particular and the National Assembly in general would continue to support genuine efforts of the Federal Government aimed at boosting both local and international sporting activities through relevant legislation and budgetary appropriation.
