Governor Dickson and Bayelsa Queens’ Progression in Women Football

By Daily Sports on February 4, 2019

In practising this peculiar profession called journalism, you get all sorts of brushes and you are regularly in the eye of the storm. I have been in the journalism for decades, cutting my teeth under very exposed, experienced, thorough breed, disciplined and well behaved professionals of the first order.

It is sure footed. This solid tutelage gave me strong footing and self confidence thus far. However, I have not found it funny as a reporter since this column debuted in Daily Sports (www.dailysportsng.com) some three years plus ago.

If it is not from the administrators, it will be from colleagues who out of their wild imagination or may be how they go about their duties put you on the spot even without anyone pronouncing you guilty.

I have got much of accusations and counter accusations from this people. Just last week, my write up on Amaju Pinnick and his Sports Minister’s game did not go down well with Adewale Oke from Abuja who claimed to be following the administration more. Some of us on the beat called me a hired writer by the Glass House to be attacking the Sports Minister. To him, he has been following my write up as he put it, against the Minister and thereby warned me for the last time to choose between dropping anchor on anything on Dalung or face squarely anything afterwards.

Mohammed Abubakar, who also claimed that I am one of the most critical columnists against Sports Minister and such has cost me much friends and what he called goodwill. He concluded that I will be better for it if I turn in his opinion ‘a new leaf’.

There were more and even my known colleagues whom I won’t mention their names here. I just highlighted this for your information only and to know that from whichever angle you may be looking at it from, I have been vindicated as news that trended at the close of last week of a foreign trip the NFF supremo, Amaju Pinnick, made with the Sports Minister, who has been up in arms against the executive committee led by Pinnick. I have no apologies describing Sports Minister as man without colour in my articles. He is one that vomits and before you could say Usain Bolt, he has gone back and licked them off. I stand by that assertion. And also that Amaju Pinnick has been his superior in the game and that the Plateau State born featherweight (what the stomach will eat politician) has been doing is to fly kite in order to remain relevant and cut his pound of flesh for a living.

My dear thousands of readers, it is not our topic for the week but felt like wetting your appetite before serving you this week’s menu! Do enjoy!! The exploits Balyesa Queens at the recently concluded Women NWFL in Lagos was slated for analysis for this week which its icing came off the fatherly gesture of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson last week. He rewarded the girls and their technical crew for job well done. The girls brought honour and attention to the peaceful state which vividly announced the way and manner the state government headed by Governor Dickson takes women sports in the oil producing State.

Daily Sports received the victory of the Queens of Balysea with heart-warming to our entire desk for good number of reasons which includes the consistency of the team over these years, the also un-relented support the State has extended to the team and generally other sports in the state, the commitment of the players and their technical crew over these years thereby competing decisively and strongly in the Nigeria Women Football League. It is also instructive to note here that the entire people of the state give maximum support to their darling top flight squad in the women elite football league in the country.

It is also safe to say that Balysea Queens is one of the oldies in NWFL that held sway when it was so difficult to predict games in that cadre of football in our development of the round leather game in women football. One will not hesitate to congratulate the State government for her painstaking desire and honest hands of fellowship in her spirited efforts to grow this game thereby speedily growing the game and encouraging the girl child that has talent, determination, staying power, deep interest and sundry.

Baylsea Queens have come a long way and have also shown class and discipline staying afloat in the obvious slippery terrain worsened by heavily mismanaged economy by the government led by Major General Muhammadu Buahri. It is in us (www.dailysportsng.com) to recognise and give pass mark to whom and where it is due. Governor Dickson has shown depth of staying power as he has positioned and sustained the top women football team in the State so also he has done in other sports and sectors in the State. To be honest with you, when I read in this medium his extended appreciation to the team, truly it never came to me and other close watchers of the State progression as surprise.

As we thumb up Governor Dickson and the Queens for the act of honouring her State, it is well done.  As we continue to examine and re-examine the gesture of Governor Seriake Dickson, let’s take it to our social media handles for further discussion. As you read a recap of Governor Dickson’s welcome hand shake with Balysea Queens for her victorious journey from Lagos, venue of Super four league championship concluded recently, Keep shooting hard till next week!! Have swell time reading . . .
