Mikel Targets Promotion with Middlesbrough

By Daily Sports on January 26, 2019

Nigeria international John Obi Mikel has set his sights on winning promotion to the English Premier League with Middlesbrough FC.

The 31-year-old completed his return to English football this week, signing a short term deal with Boro after leaving Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin TEDA at the end of November.

Mikel is best remembered for his 11-year stint with Chelsea where he made just short of 400 appearances during which time he won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

“For me it’s looking at the project,” he told the club’s official website.

“I spoke to a few clubs and I also spoke to Tony [Pulis], had a good chat with him.

“He’s told me where he wants to go with it and it definitely fits with what I want to do.

“The club wants to get promoted so hopefully I’m here to help in any way I can.

“It’s a family club and this is what I want. I like stability and this is why I was at Chelsea for a very long time.”

Boro currently occupy fifth place on the log standings, seven points behind league leaders Leeds United. (African Football)
