Remo Stars Chairman, Honourable Kunle Soname, has berated the referee that officiated the Nigeria Professional Football League match between Remo Stars and Insurance of Benin which ended 1-1 at the Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu on Sunday.
Bright Omokaro opened the scoring for the Benin Arsenal against the run of play early in the second half.
Remo Stars striker, Victor Mbaoma restored parity for the Sky Blues Stars in a keenly contested affair.
Ekene Awaziem scored the second goal, but it was ruled out for offside by the center referee, Bethel Nwanesi, a decision which angered the home supporters.
The referee was hit with an object by one of Remo Stars supporters, the referee had to run for cover with the help of the security operatives on ground.
Speaking to journalists after the game, Soname said: “This is the worst officiating I’ve ever seen. The ref and assistants are very, very incompetent.”
“If not that we have adequate security, you could imagine what could have happened. Football is an emotional game, but I appeal to fans not to let our emotions rule us.
“I’ll fight this till the end, even if need be FIFA.
“I will write, I will write to the appropriate quarters.”
“The two teams played very well, they show good artistry of the game, but the refs’ incompetence killed the game.
“LMC have a lot to do. Football continues, we have another game next week,” Soname concluded.
Similarly, Remo Stars Chief Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has questioned the integrity of the match officials in the NPFL match against Insurance.
