Afcon Ticket: Our tactics made life difficult for South Africa — Rohr

By Daily Sports on November 18, 2018

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has stated that his tactics made life difficult for South Africa.

The Super Eagles settled for a 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana at FNB Stadium in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to make the finals billed for Cameroon next year.

Rohr settled for a 3-5-2 formation that had not been in use since their ouster from the World Cup in Russia and his side were unlucky not to have won the game after two questionable offside calls denied them two other goals.

“South Africa is a very good team. We knew it will be a difficult game it was very hot we arrived yesterday morning without sleeping in the night and second half was very difficult,” Rohr said after the game.

“We started the match well. We struck the first goal and our tactics was okay they had to come against our defensive block and it was difficult for South Africa.

“We tried to score the second goal because we play to win all the time. Today we didn’t win, we did not want to take any risk because we knew a draw is just like a victory,” Rohr said.

The Super Eagles return to the showpiece after garnering 10 points from five games to remain Group E leaders.

They start preparation for the competition in Cameroon in earnest with a friendly game against Uganda at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday. (Goal)
