Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup revelations, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze appear most likely to feature against Uganda in an international friendly match on Tuesday. Although both attackers entered the Super Eagles’ camp on the strength of recent top form for their respective clubs, and were both very lively in training with the senior squad, the gaffer, they will not play until Tuesday in Asaba.
This is sequel to a verdict by Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr that Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa was too steep and decisive a game to experiment with.
Considering that Rohr already has a surfeit of young players in his team for the cracker at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, the Franco-German tactician reckoned it would be too ambitious lining out Osimhen and Chukwueze among the lot.
Consequently, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium’s Osimhen and Villarreal of Spain’s Chukwueze are both in line to feature as second half entries for the battle against Uganda at Stephen Keshi Stadium, in which some home-based players will also line out for the hosts.
Osimhen and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze, are unlikely to make their full debut for the Super Eagles when they take on South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
While Chukwueze is enjoying his first senior team call-up, Osimhen made his Eagles’ debut off the bench in a 3-0 win against Togo on June 1, 2017, before earning his second cap nine days later in the first leg of the AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa as an 85th minute substitute.
However, rather than look at Osimhen and Chukwueze for Saturday’s game, Rohr opted to stick with more experienced legs in Al-Nassr’s Ahmed Musa, Watford’s Isaac Success, Girondins-Bordeaux’s Samuel Kalu, Levante’s Moses Simon and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho. (Football live)
