The Tunisian Football Federation have unexpectedly parted ways with head coach Faouzi Benzarti, despite securing qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this week.
The veteran coach was point appointed by the FTF in July, and as yet, no reason has been given for his departure.
The Carthage Eagles defeated Niger 2-1 in Niamey on Tuesday to move up to 12 points in Group J, but only four days later, the federation have confirmed the exit of their head coach.
In a statement published on Saturday as seen by KweséESPN, the FTF confirmed that Benzarti had been relieved of his duties, with Maher Kanzari and Mourad Okbi taking over as interims.
The duo will oversee the final two matches of the AFCON 2019 qualifying campaign.
He’d previously been with reigning CAF Champions League winners Wydad Casablanca.
Saturday's news brings to an end Benzarti's fourth stint with the national side, having previously held the reins during the 1994 and 2010 AFCONs.
He's also managed Libya, as well as North African heavyweights Club Africain and Etoile du Sahel. (KweseESPN)
