The 4th edition of the Bet9ja Football competition taking place in Benin City, Edo State has entered the quarter final stage after some pulsating first round games featuring the finest of what grassroots football has to offer.
Benin Warriors FC, BJ Foundation, Clibbers FC, Mission Side FC, Ine Stars FC, Yak FC, Rockers FC and Eno Flow FC are the clubs who have made it to the quarter finals which will take place on Monday, 15th October.
Benin Warriors, making their debut in the competition, topped group D impressively, besting Yak FC who came second in the group.
The young and technically gifted Benin Warriors team won 3 of their 4 group matches after their first match 0-0 draw against ex-Nigerian International Yakubu Aiyegbeni-backed Yak FC.
The Warriors scored 8 goals in the group and conceded none to show their ambition.
In their quarter final game on Monday, the Benin Warriors will come up against a very quality side, full of experienced players, in Clibbers FC who secured qualification from group B with six points, only losing to BJ Foundation 1-2 in their final group match after qualification had already been secured.
BJ Foundation FC are a side in Super form. After winning all their matches mostly with high margins to win the Edo state league recently, the club jumped straight into the Bet9ja competition with no single day of rest. But if there were signs that BJ would suffer from fatigue in the Bet9ja football competition, it has not shown at all so far.
BJ have taken to this competition seamlessly, picking from where they stopped in the State league by winning all their group C matches.
BJ Foundation is a team that has a culture of producing top quality youth players who have gone on to fuller professional careers and also to represent Nigeria internationally over the years and this current crop of players seem headed for that same lofty direction.
Star players for BJ who have impressed in the Bet9ja competition so far are aggressive striker Uche Epete, mercurial attacking midfielder and team captain Solomon Osaghae and pack winger Tochukwu.
BJ take on Yak FC in the third match of the quarter final but must be wary of a Yak team that is capable of producing nice passing football and moments of magic, led my petit midfield lynchpin Abu Piopio.
In the other quarter final pairings, impressive young side Rockers FC are up against another ambitious team in Eno Flow FC in the first of all the quarter final games.
The match is expected to be a keenly contested affair as both clubs have energetic young players who have enough quality to swing such games in their favor.
Ine Stars FC recovered from their shocking 1-3 opening day loss to qualify from group C and the one-time FA Cup champions of Edo State would be looking to go all the way now to winning the Bet9ja tournament. But first they must find a way to navigate through the challenge of their quarter final game against a top quality Mission Side FC who have a melange of experienced and young players who have the wherewithal to put win against good sides.
Any one who watched Mission Side FC take pro-divisob 1 Club Dynamite Force FC all the way only to lose 2-3 in a thriller of a game on the last Edo FA Cup would know that the club fears nobody.
