Horoya held Al Ahly to a goalless draw in a first-leg 2018 CAF Champions League quarterfinal showdown at the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry on Friday evening.
The reverse fixture will take place in Cairo next Saturday, 22 September.
The eight-time CAFCL champions struggled to break down a resolute Horoya defence on a night of few chances in the Guinean capital.
Al Ahly's best chance of the opening half came via a deflection that whistled narrowly wide of Germain Berthe's goal in the 31st minute of the clash.
The Red Devils cranked up the pressure following the break and should've opened the scoring in the 76th minute after Islam Mohareb sent Salah Mohsen through on goal, but the latter was denied by Berthe.
Mohsen had another chance to fire the visitors in front nine minutes later, but the forward fired his attempt well off target with the goal at his mercy.
In the end, Horoya held on to give themselves a fighting chance in the Egyptian capital next weekend, knowing that a score-draw will be enough to send them into the final four. (SuperSport)
