Uncapped BidVest Wits forward Mxolisi Macuphu has been called into the Bafana Bafana squad as a replacement for injured Strasbourg striker Lebo Mothiba as the side prepares for a crucial African Nations Cup qualifier at home to Libya on Saturday.
Macuphu has had a fine start to the new season at Wits, helping them to the top of the Absa Premiership table with two goals in five games.
The 29-year-old’s strength as a targetman is likely the reason why he has been called up though and he could provide a good foil for Percy Tau.
Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has received a number of injury blows, with France-based Bongani Zungu and the Mamelodi Sundowns pair of Themba Zwane and Hlompho Kekana already having pulled out.
Bafana won their Nations Cup qualification opener away against Nigeria last June and have faced a long wait to resume the campaign.
The top two sides in each pool will advance to the finals in Cameroon next year. (SuperSport)
