Promising Nigerian midfielder Luke Amos made his maiden competitive appearance in a Tottenham Hotspur jersey as the North London club began the new season with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Newcastle United.
The Academy product was named on the bench for a Premier League game for the first time in his career, before he was brought on by manager Mauricio Pochettino for the final two minutes.
It seemed as if Fernando Llorente was going to come on as the third substitute but Pochettino changed his mind and handed a debut to Amos as England World Cup star Eric Dier was struggling.
The Argentinian coach strongly believes that Amos will improve his midfield after showing his qualities in the club's pre-season trip to the United States, where he started games against Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan.
Having enjoyed previous loan spells at Southend United and Stevenage in 2017 and 2018 respectively, it is looking more likely now that he won't be loaned out before the close of the summer transfer window at the end of this month.
All the goals in today's game at St James' Park were scored in the first half, Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli for Spurs in between a goal from Joselu. (All Nigeria Soccer)
