Alex Iwobi will remain a Gunner for the foreseeable future it seems, after Arsenal Manager, Unai Emery, confirmed the player is close to signing an extension.
Per The Guardian, Iwobi will get an improved £70,000 per week wage for his new five year deal with the Premier League club.
At a press conference on Friday, Emery confirmed the 22-year-old midfielder, who recently returned to club action after his World Cup duties with Nigeria, has impressed in his early assessment, regardless, he was on course for a new deal.
“I have the information,” Emery said. “I want to work with the players first. This week, Mesut, Iwobi and Elneny are starting to work with us and our first impression is very good with them. My information is that he is going to sign and continue with us.”
Iwobi made his first senior appearance for Arsenal in 2015 and has since go on to play 98 times for the club.
In the 2015-16 season, Iwobi followed in the footsteps of Arsenal and Nigerian Legend Kanu Nwankwo, when he helped the club lift the FA Cup. (Footballlive.ng)
