CAF Champions League:Etoile du Sahel claim knockout spot

Etoile Sportive Du Sahel bagged a 2-0 win over Mbabane Swallows in their fourth CAF Champions League, Group D match at the Stade Olympique de Sousse on Friday night.

The North Africans were fresh from a 3-0 win in their third match last week on Tuesday afternoon in Swaziland.

The third group match was staged at Mavuso Sports Centre in Swaziland where the North Africans walked away with the full three points.

In this one, the hosts started like a house on fire as they wanted to continue where they left off in Swaziland and pushed for an opening goal in the early stages of the tie.

In their efforts to score, Karim Aouadhi provided an assist for Maher Hannachi to find the back of the net in the 21st minute.

On the stroke of the halftime, the hosts were awarded a penalty when Swallows committed a foul in the box.

However, Alaya Brigui failed to score and it was 1-0 at halftime in favour of the hosts.

On their return, they put pressure on the visiting Birds, but were not clinical enough upfront to find their second goal.

However, substitute Selim Belgacem made it 2-0 in the 89th minute to consolidate the hosts' lead.

In the wake of the win, the North Africans now have 10 points at the summit of the group and have secured a spot in the knockout stages.

On the other hand, the Swazis remain placed third with four points from as many games and will meet Zesco United next month at home. (Super Sports)
