Wimbledon 2018: Roger Federer expects to return next year after shock loss in quarter-final

Roger Federer is out of Wimbledon, which means that half the viewership of the grass-court Grand Slam is now looking for something else to watch on television.

The Swiss maestro had a match point in the third set against South African behemoth Kevin Anderson, but couldn't maintain the high-quality tennis that had led him to the final eight and he ended up being bundled out in five sets.

It was the third time in Roger's Grand Slam career that he had lost a match while holding a 2-0 set advantage, the final score read 2-6 6-7 (7) 7-5 6-4 13-11 in what was an epic match that lasted four hours and 13 minutes.

When arguably the greatest male tennis player of all time sat in the chair in the post-match press conference, there were many emotions on his face. Disappointment, disbelief, confusion, exhaustion.

Considering the 36-year-old's age, many reporters were wondering whether the latest setback could sway Federer into thinking about retirement.

After all, he will be 37 next year, and what else does the Fed Express have to prove? The answer is nothing considering he was won eight Wimbledon crowns previously, including five on the trot from 2003-2007.

Does Federer feel like he let another Grand Slam title slip away? Or was his shock loss too much to bare?

Much to tennis fans all over the world's delight, the legend, at least now, seems to want to come back and try again.

“Yeah, of course, the goal is to come back here next year,” Federer said post-match.

“I wouldn’t call it ‘unfinished business’. I felt like I did some good business here in the past already So I’m all right. Just disappointed now.

“I just love being around here. It’s a good vibe. We have a good time as a family. I have great memories from here. My heroes all won here.

“It motivates me to do extremely well here because I don’t want to sit here and explain my loss. That’s the worst feeling you can have as a tennis player.”

The man who bested Federer, Anderson, will now take on American John Isner in one semi-final. The other semi boasts some names you may have heard of. (Sporting news)
