NFF President Amaju Pinnick under pressure to drop re-election bid

By Daily Sports on July 1, 2018

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) , Amaju Pinnick, re -election bid may have suffered a major setback if the declaration of some South-South FA chairmen is anything to go by.

Even before the Eagles embarked on the journey to Russia, Pinnick had allegedly began his lobby of delegates ahead of the September election of the NFF in Katsina.

But things are taking a different dimension with the exit of Nigeria from the competition, with majority of the delegates now distancing themselves from Pinnick’s re-election bid.

Two FA chairmen from the South-South zone , who spoke with The Guardian in separate interviews, said that pushing for Pinnick’s re-election bid might be difficult going by the current situation’ we have found ourselves.

“Two things might play out as soon as we arrive in Nigeria,” one of them said.

“One is the fact that no NFF chairman had served two terms, and the other issue, which I think will nail Pinnick’s ambition is the poor performance of the Eagles in Russia.

If the team had done well, perhaps, many Nigerians would have wanted him to continue in office. But since the team fumbled, I doubt if things will work out for him.”

Another FA chairman from the South-South region said: “Pinnick’s personal relationship with a majority members on the board is not cordial. He has so many enemies within, and he is running a divided camp.”
