Can Anthony Joshua be G.O.A.T?

By Daily Sports on June 12, 2018

The next couple of fights that Anthony Joshua have inside the ring will define his career. The British boxer aims to become the undisputed heavyweight champ since fellow Brit Lennox Lewis. The only belt missing from achieving this mammoth task is the WBC below which is currently held by Deontay Wilder. If Joshua is to become a GOAT he will need to beat Wilder to cement his credentials as the best of all time.

Most betting reviews have Joshua as the man to back in 2018 to become the undisputed champion of the world. It is a high-risk game that the Brit is taking as he will need to put his three belts on the line to win the final belt held by Wilder. The negotiations between the two camps are ongoing but the signs are that it is expected to be announced in the coming months.

Wilder is arguably the most difficult opponent that Joshua could face but many will argue that when he took the three belts from Wladimir Klitschko was a more difficult challenge. Wilder is 40 fights unbeaten though and has freakish power generated from an unorthodox style. One mistake by Joshua could end in a disaster which is why he must be at his best if he is going to get the win he desperately needs to cement his legacy.

If Joshua is able to defeat Wilder and become the undisputed champ he will face another career defining fight against Tyson Fury who was the last man to defeat Klitschko. Fury believes he is still the champ and if it had not been for a drug ban and him losing his marbles, he may still be at the top of the game.

Fury presents a completely different challenge than Wilder and many experts believe he will be more difficult. Fury has the size, reach and power to dispatch anyone in the world which will present a lot of challenges for Joshua. If he does not manage to dispatch both Fury and Wilder he will not become a GOAT. His legacy will be in ruins and his name will not be mentioned the same as the likes of Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali.

It is likely that we will only see one of the two career-defining fights take place in 2018 with Wilder the favorite to take place. If Joshua does manage to claim all four belts then 2019 will be a case of cementing his legacy by beating Fury. Only by passing the tests will Joshua become a GOAT but he has already cemented his place as a great.

There will be other boxers that challenge Joshua over the coming years that have a chance of taking his throne. For now, though Joshua has to face Wilder and Tyson to he becomes a legend of the sport. So far he has passed every test with flying colors which he will need to continue doing so to become the greatest.  (Ringsidereports.com)
