Nigeria’s Izu Ugonoh returns, stops veteran challenger in 3 rounds

By Alexey Sukachev on May 26, 2018

Exactly fifteen months since his first professional loss to Dominic Breazeale, Poland-based and raised Nigerian Izuagbe “Izu” Ugonoh (18-1, 15 KOs) got a sweet and sweatless return with the third-round stoppage of veteran Fred Kassi (18-8-1, 10 KOs), who has lost his fifth straight.

Ugonoh was slightly better in the first couple of rounds against an awkward southpaw opponent.

Then, unexpectedly, Kassi complained about his physical condition, and the fight was stopped although Kassi didn’t look to be seriously hurt. Time of stoppage was 0:09.

Norbert Dabrowski stamped his superiority over rugged Robert Talarek with an emphatic win in a rubber match of two Polish middleweight journeymen. Dabrowski scored a unanimous decision in the trilogy's most scintillating action bout.

They first met each other in 2015, Dabrowski, 29, scoring a close unanimous decision. Talarek, 34, stroke back with a convincing unanimous decision two years later. He picked up just where he left it, being aggressive and stalking the more subtle Dabrowski, whose footwork allowed him to avoid danger in round one.

Talarek was physically stronger in the second round, and led the game in round three, when his eyebrow was suddenly cut after an accidental headbutt. It affected Talarek, who lost the control to Dabrowski.

The crucial moment took place in the fifth, when Norbert put Robert down on a hard left hook. Talarek got up only to send back horizontally after yet another big left bomb by Dabrowski. Talarek survived and then gave fits to Dabrowski in the sixth, while still losing the seventh. Talarek attempted a late surge in the eighth and final round but it was indeed later. (boxingscene.com)
