Ozil missing from Arsenal training ahead of Burnley clash

By Daily Sports on May 6, 2018

Mesut Ozil was not present in training as Arsenal’s stars prepared for their clash with Burnley.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes as Arsene Wenger’s men were dumped out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown predicted that Ozil would pull out of this weekend’s match following the defeat and the German was indeed missing from first-team training on the eve of the game.

Santi Cazorla returned to full training for the first time in 19 months, though, and the Spaniard is determined to feature for the Gunners before the end of the season.

The midfielder last played for Arsenal in October 2016 and has admitted that he’s unsure what the future holds.

Former Arsenal defender Keown claimed that Ozil was ‘not fit to wear the shirt’ following the defeat to Atleti.

“These are crocodile tears I’m seeing. He’s not conning me,” Keown said on BT Sport.

“I bet he doesn’t play again this season. He will have some emotional breakdown and won’t be able to play at the weekend.

“He wasn’t fit to wear the shirt for me tonight, and I have seen this a lot this season.”

Wenger defended Ozil’s performance in Madrid after the strong criticism from Keown.

“We lose as a team. When you want to be listened to now you have to be extreme and football is more complex than that,” Wenger said.

“You will see that when you analyse his physical performance that he gave a lot.

“It was a difficult game, physically very intense, and I am convinced Ozil should not be now victimised by anyone because we did not score.” (Metro)
