The Edo State 2018 Federation Cup is hotting up in Benin City as Nigerian pro League 1 outfits Bendel Insurance and Dynamite Force saw off strong opposition from grassroots sides to progress to the round of 16.
In a hotly contested first round tie played at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) sports complex, Insurance pipped Eagles Wings 1-0 courtesy of a late minute goal by Junior Osaghae.
Reporting on the match, media officer of Insurance Eguakun Edosoghe writes:
"It took a 90th minute super strike by Junior Osaghae of Bendel Insurance Football Club, before the Edo FA Aiteo Cup round of 32 Match was decided between Benin Insurance Football Club and Eagles Wings FC of Benin.
The game which was witnessed by stakeholders in Edo football fraternity, had everyone at the edge of their seats as both teams went for the first Blood from blast of the referee’s whistle, signaling commencement of play in a match which led to a high octane display by the two teams.
Eagles Wings had earlier showed some attacking prowess in the first quarter of the game but a calm Bendel Insurance Team maintained control, putting them under check as both Teams retired to the dressing room on stalemate.
Just as the game was heading for a 0-0 final scoreline, Junior Osaghae ran into the opponents 18 yard Box and cleverly put the ball into the net as Eagles Wings Goal Tender looked on in disappointment as the Ball rested in the net.
Coach Baulwin Bazuaye, who spoke on behalf of Bendel Insurance Technical Crew, said the team used the Match as preparation for the trip to Ibadan, against Shooting Stars Sports Club in the Match day 2 of bet9ja 2018 NNL fixture.
"The Match was not bad, we used it as part of our preparation for shooting Stars, the match was OK."
On his part, Coach of Eagles Wings, Osaro Egharevba, said his players performed very well.
"My Boys placed very well , my Boys played to instruction we played a very good Match with Bendel Insurance".
Other Results in Edo FA 2018 Aiteo Cup this week include pro one side Dynamite seeing off Okhomu FC 3-1,Bj Foundation FC 2 Peal Meg 3,Fortress Youth FC 1 Crescent Sport 4. Defending Champions, Bendel Insurance Football Club will take on Alhaji FC in the round of 16 on the May 14, 2018, at the University of Benin Astro Turf.
