Troost-Ekong joins Mata’s Common Goal, to donate one percent of salary to charity

Juan Mata has signed up William Troost-Ekong as the 43rd member of his Common Goal movement.

Nigeria international Troost-Ekong has pledged to donate one percent of his salary to charity along with the Manchester United midfielder and a number of other players and managers including Mats Hummels and Giorgio Chiellini.

Common Goal, which will support football-based charities around the world, has already raised more than $650,000 in the six months since Mata became the first professional footballer to pledge.

Troost-Ekong, 24, who plays for Bursaspor, is expected to be part of Nigeria’s World Cup squad in Russia this summer.

“Winning the bronze medal for Nigeria at the 2016 Olympics and qualifying for the World Cup were both massive moments for me,” he said.

“However I’m hoping to outdo both of those this summer at the World Cup.

“I’m aware that I’m a role model for children and football fans, and having travelled the world I’ve seen the impact that we have in people’s lives.

“It’s our responsibility, as players, to use that in a positive way.” (KweseESPN)
